A jury convicted a Highlands Ranch man of sexually assaulting an 81-year-old woman by getting her drunk.
Michael Steven Arreola, 58 was found guilty of five charges including unlawful sexual contact of an at-risk adult for the assault, which happened in July last year, said Pam Russell with the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
During his trail, the victim testified that Arreola, who is a friend of her ex-husband, took her to a bar in Edgewater.
Bar employees testified that Arreola was “aggressively ordering beers from the victim during the 1 to 2 hours that they were there,” Russell said.
The woman started losing her balance and at one point fell into a wall in the bar. A bar employee and Arreola had to help her to into Arreola’s truck.
A neighbor testified Arreola dragged the woman into her home around 6 p.m.
Several hours later, the victim’s granddaughter, who lived and took care of her grandmother, found Arreola naked in bed with the victim who was also unclothed.
The granddaughter put a blanked over the victim and then went next door where her father lived for help. He “ordered Arreola out of the house at gunpoint,” Russell said.
Arreola will be sentenced in August. He could face a sentence of probation for 20 years to life, or a sentence of between 8 and 24 years to life in prison.
He is currently free on a $1,000 bond.
