A Northern Kentucky mother was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol with her 5-year-old child and heroin in her car when she caused a wreck on Interstate 75 near downtown Wednesday, Cincinnati police announced.

Rebecca Cooper, 23, of Independence crashed her gold, 1997 Nissan Maxima on southbound I-75 about 2:10 p.m., Hamilton County Municipal Court records show.

When officers responded, they found heroin in the vehicle, Cincinnati Police Specialist Gregory Toyeas wrote in a complaint.

Cooper was booked into the county jail about 6 p.m. on charges of OVI, child endangering, drug possession and failure to maintain reasonable control.

She was held without bond overnight and is expected to make her first court appearance on the case this morning.

It was not immediately clear if her child is now in the care of another relative or at a foster home.
