Three-year-old boy accidentally shoots himself moments after his mother left the room

A three-year-old boy accidentally shot  himself just moments after his mother stepped out of the room.

Joshua Turner Jr., known affectionately as  J.J., died in his father’s arms on Saturday afternoon as his mother yelled for  help at their Independence, Kansas, home.

Rather than celebrating Father’s Day, the  devastated parents were  yesterday planning their firstborn’s funeral and  waiting for a coroner’s report.

Joshua, who turned 3 in January, pulled out  the gun to play with after his mom left the room briefly, the grieving family  said on Sunday.

Barely audible and still in shock, Dawn  Turner, Joshua’s mom, told the Kansas City  Star: ‘It is simply horrible.’

The boy’s grandmother, Juanita Rhodus  described how the family are feeling to the paper: ‘Our world is shattered. Our  hearts, broken.’
