JAMAICA BEACH — A pair of lungs found on the beach Wednesday morning is being tested to learn whether they’re human, authorities said.

The early consensus, however, is that the left and right lungs aren’t human remains, Jamaica Beach police Chief Andy McLane said.

A spring break vacationer found the lungs near one another on the sand shortly before noon in the 16800 block of the FM 3005. The lungs apparently washed ashore from the Gulf of Mexico.

Police met with the vacationer, a doctor who took possession of the remains and had placed the lungs in an automobile, McLane said.

Police took the lungs to the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The lungs might be larger than those of a human, McLane said.
